CABALLERO POTRIS (Spanish Bread Dessert)
 
INGREDIENTS

1 lb or 2 cups sugar
4 cups water
2 pieces cinnamon stick
5-6 eggs
1/2 tsp. orange leaves
1 package sliced bread
4 ozs shortening
1 cup raisins
1/2 tsp cinnamon
 
METHOD:

1. Combine sugar, water, cinnamon and orange leaves. Bring to boil 15-20 mins until mixture thickens.
2. Beat eggs separately then combine whites and yolks.
3. Cut slices of bread in half.
4. Dip bread into egg and brown slightlly in shortening. Drain.
5. Arrange in saucepan. Add raisins and cinnamon.
6. Pour syrup mixture over and boil for 15 minutes.
